Water Splash (side)

Here
is a side view of a simple water splash. The drop was formed with
a dropper, and the event was captured using a photogate trigger. When
the drop passed in between an infrared emitter and detector, it triggered
the high-speed video camera. The high column is formed after the drop
hits the water, when the displaced water comes back together. This
splash was captured at a framerate of 2000 frames/sec, and with a
shutter speed of 2X, or 1/4000th of a second.
