2005

We worked on this project from 1/13/2005 to 2/11/2005.

Introduction

The objective of this project was to photograph balls in collision. Our initial goal was to be able to compare the rigidity of several different balls; however, due to time constraints, we were not able to photograph more than one ball and thus could not make any comparisons. We used high speed photography techniques to capture still photos of our ball in contact with a surface and in various stages of their collision.  Specifically, we used a contact trigger and a computer intervalometer to control the timing of our flashes.  We examined our photographs for the purpose of analyzing how much our ball compressed upon impact and how long its impacts lasted.  This website presents our project, the photos that we took, and our findings. We worked on this project as part of the NCSSM high-speed imaging program.
